Weegee took a lot of promotional pictures of himself, like the famous one where he is typing captions in the trunk of his car. He did not take this very promotional picture himself though.
The wallpaper has a theatre feeling to it, there is a small mirror in the back, could be there is a mirror in front of Weegee too.
But no light is coming from his flash, so somebody else must have taken this photo.

The flashbulb is black, which means it is used.
Weegee couldn’t take a picture even if he wanted to, even if there was a mirror. First a new bulb in the reflector.
Or is it an infrared flashbulb?
They are black and you don’t see any light coming out of them.
Light the human eye can see, that is.
Weegee is known for taking infrared pictures of loving couples during screenings of movies.
Yes that’s it, he’s in the movie theatre for his infrared series.
This might even be an infrared self portrait.

Update on Weege as an ice cream peddler.
The small circular mirror in the back is not a mirror.
It’s a filter of glass, attached to Weegee’s reflector.
It’s the infrared filter.
To replace the bulb you fold it up.
