During my 1988 trip through the Netherlands in I drove a Citroën Van. I would take photo’s with a 5x4 from the roof and live inside. Pictures and diary entries were published every week in newspaper Trouw.

The car was built in 1974. The upholstery was beautifully done by a ships carpenter. Being 14 years old the metalwork was already in a bad shape. Once I had a flat tyre, I tried to lift the car with a jack to no avail, the metal of the chassis was too weak to hold the weight.

After a year I came back to Amsterdam. There was a show in the Stedelijk Museum, a book was published called ‘Hollandse Taferelen’. I sold the Citroën to Simon. He managed to take it to France many times for vacation, until in 2008 the gearbox jammed for the third time. Beyond repair.

Simon sold the car to Wouter. Knowing how bad it’s shape was, he still wanted it for its history. This year beginning of june Wouter invited Simon and me for a trip. The Citroën was restored, an almost exact replica of the car I lived in. The water-bag, the magnet to hold the cover of the stove, the milage calculator, details I had forgotten about, everything was there. Only the pinup was gone.
