Het engelstalige persbericht:
In 2009 Van der Weijde published the book “This is not my Son” (Rollo-Press, 2009) in which he takes the viewer on a journey through what seems to be family pictures. Most of Van der Weijde’s photographic series are first shown as books and only afterwards translated to an exhibition. Many of his books are published by himself, but also in collaboration with renowned publishers such as ROMA Publications (NL), Kaugummi books (F) and Rollo-Press (CH).
On the opening party there will be a presentation of Van der Weijde’s new book: “SUPERQUADRA” (ROMA Publications, 2010) which contains over 160 photographs of modernist housing in the fifties. This book is a continuation of “Siedlung” for which Van der Weijde photographed hundreds of houses built for the NSDAP members in Nazi Germany.
Erik van der Weijde was born in 1979 in Dordrecht, Netherlands. He graduated from the Rietveld Academy in 2003, and finished the 2 years residency program at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in 2008. His work has been exhibited in museums and galleries in the Netherlands and abroad.
